    About Gonarezhou National Park

Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe’s second-largest park, covers an impressive 5,000 square kilometers in the southeastern part of the country. Renowned as the “Place of Elephants,” the park is celebrated for its strikingly beautiful landscapes, which include towering sandstone cliffs, extensive river systems, and vast stretches of pristine wilderness. The park’s dramatic terrain is shaped by its unique geology and hydrology. The iconic Chilojo Cliffs, rising majestically above the surrounding landscape, offer breathtaking views of the park and the Runde River below. The extensive river systems, including the Save and Runde rivers, not only provide vital water sources for the park’s wildlife but also create lush, fertile areas that contrast with the surrounding arid landscapes.

Gonarezhou forms a crucial part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a cross-border conservation area that connects Zimbabwe’s Gonarezhou with South Africa’s Kruger National Park and Mozambique’s Limpopo National Park. This extensive transfrontier park is a significant conservation area, aimed at preserving and enhancing wildlife habitats across international boundaries. The park is a sanctuary for an array of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, which roam freely across its varied landscapes. Visitors to Gonarezhou can experience the raw beauty of Zimbabwe’s wild heart, from exhilarating game drives and walking safaris to serene river cruises. The park’s remote and untouched nature offers an authentic and immersive safari experience, making it a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
